MILLET is part of the ‘ENTREPId’ consortium (European Partnership for Rail Noise Reduction), created in 2019 by six rail vehicle owners based in France, Belgium, Italy and Slovakia. Their project has been selected by CINEA (the European Executive Agency for Climate, Infrastructure and the Environment) for European funding.
The ENTREPId project aims to reduce the noise generated by rail freight transport in modifying the braking systems of wagon fleets. The new, quieter braking equipment will not only improve the energy efficiency of trains, but above all the environmental conditions for local residents. This modification will reduce wagon noise emissions by 8 to 12 decibels.
The project, which involved modifying the brakes on around 8,700 S-type wagons belonging to the six partners, was completed in December 2024. As a result, Millet can now offer to its customers a fleet equipped with a silent braking system that is in step with technological progress.
Philippe Millet, Chairman of Millet SAS, said he was delighted to have been involved in this major project, which is one of eight launched by the EU to adapt more than 77,000 freight wagons operating in Europe to technological and regulatory developments.
